Article: Dentoy Revillar Interview
"Fighter Testifies in Fatal Knifing"

The following article was in the newspaper after Dentoy Revillar testified in a stabbing. Dentoy mailed this to Micheal, after it came out in the paper because it had a few things cited that they had been talking about at the time and it stresses a few things in relationship to the 'old school' character of the Manong Eskrimadors and 'old style' essence of Eskrima.

Remember that Eskrima is about preserving life, it is never about taking life. Eskrima skills should be kept to yourself, and only used in case of last resort. Life is precious, and so are the skills of an Eskrimador.  The following citations are from this article and important to consider when studying Eskrima (H and W used for respective names):

- Eskrima technique calls for combatants to slash only at limbs if an opponent is armed.  If the opponent is not armed, there is no fight.

- One of the cardinal rules of Filipino knife fighting is to disarm your opponent first. You cut the weapon arm so the opponent drops the knife. Once that happens, the conflict stops.

- If W had indeed approached H too aggressively, the escrima-taught response would have been for H to "lock up" W by crossing his forearms and placing them firmly against W's body.  That way H would have been able to defend himself against any aggressive move with minimal injury to himself or W.

- It's been kept quite, under wraps, there is a very strong philosophy to escrima. It's a way of life.
